Call of Duty Ghosts – Sniper Changes

ghostssniperThere’s been a lot of commotion over the snipers in Call of Duty: Ghosts recently. This class is facing the most changes of them all, and it’s sparking some controversy. But hold on, does everyone even know exactly what’s changing, and how it effects gameplay? Maybe the changes are good? Or maybe they’re all terrible and designed to secretly destroy the franchise forever? Keep on reading to find out.

Hitboxes – What are they, and what do they do

hitboxcsHave you ever been playing a 3D video game, and been killed without actually having the weapon (or bullet) hit your body? Or better yet, you managing to kill someone, even though you missed? Or in the very rare occasion, you hit your target, but nothing happens! What could possibly be causing this?

It’s an interesting and surprisingly unknown phenomenon called the Hitbox. It’s an invisible set of geometry around a 3D model that detects and reacts to being hit. If you run into a building, and the building stops you, you actually ran into the hitbox, not the building model. Keep reading, I’ll go into more detail.

C&R Review Ratings

coinsandrupees

Here on Coins & Rupees, sometimes I’ll post a review of a game. Whether it’s a mobile game, a console game, an online freebie, or whatever else, I’ll post my thoughts and opinions on it. Those thoughts will include the good, the bad, the things that irked me, the things that I liked, game-breaking issues, and possibly some speculation. If it’s a sequel, I’ll compare it to previous games to make sure it’s made improvements.

Something that’s worth saying, all these reviews are my personal opinion. This isn’t gospel, it’s just my opinion on the game. I enjoy Call of Duty, for example, and I know a lot of you don’t. Some things that I like that you may not, and some things you may like that I don’t. I don’t mind grinding for cash or exp in a game, and I know a lot of other people really hate grinding. So, the rating I give a game is my rating, and not the end-all conclusion to the game. Do you have your own reasons and ratings? Please leave a comment in the post.

Another thing I’ll be doing, which will also hopefully make the rating system a bit less serious, is relate the score to something in-game. If I was reviewing Pac-Man, I’d say 7/10 pellets. Or if I was reviewing The Walking Dead, I’d review 8.5/10 Headshots. Hopefully you get the idea. If you really cannot stand my ratings, then just read the article and make your own decision.

Hopefully this is a quick little guide for my reviews. They’re my opinions, I’ll talk about the good and bad, and I’ll give it a rating between 0 and 10 that’s related to the game.

The ominous ‘other’ on a Mac hard drive

harddriveNot exactly video games, specifically, but still technologically relevant. I’ve noticed for several days now that my laptop has been extra sluggish. It’s not exactly the latest and greatest, a Macbook Pro from 2009 or 2010 I believe. It’s worked slick so far, accommodating all my needs. But it’s been acting quite a bit slower than usual, and I was wondering why.

When I popped open the ‘about this mac’ file and looked at the storage, I was shocked to see I had 140 gigabytes, which is over half my entire hard drive, of this ominous yellow ‘other’ bar. What could possibly be causing this? Keep reading to see how I figured it out.

History of the ESRB ratings

ratedtWe’re all used to ratings on video games. If it’s completely clean, then it’s E for Everyone. If it has a little bit of roughness in it, it’ll be E10+, for Everyone 10 and older. If it has some rough elements, it can be labeled T, for Teenager. And, of course, if it’s a very rough game, it’ll be rated M for Mature. All commercial video games are rated on this scale, thanks to the ESRB. But it hasn’t always been this way. What caused the first ESRB ratings? Read the rest of this entry

Why I’m buying an Xbox One

xboxoneconsoleThe next generation of consoles are both amazing devices. Skillfully crafted, powerfully designed, and they look excellent. Both the PS4 and Xbox One are very equally matched. But for me, personally, I’m going to buy an Xbox One. I’d love to get both, but I don’t have the cash. It seems that the general opinion online is against the Xbox One, which is also reflected in pre-orders. So, why am I getting an Xbox One, rather than PS4?

As a quick preface, I’m not saying you should buy an Xbox One, or Playstation 4, just because of my opinion. That’s up to you. A lot of these are entirely opinion based.  Read the rest of this entry
